EXHIBITION

Stéphanie Haye’s paintings

From lens to canvas: re-interpreting New Zealand landscapes

Artist’s bio

Stéphanie Haye started painting as a self-taught artist at the age of 17. Her first painting box: an oil painting set.… And undoubtedly the use of this medium allowed her to access the meaning that, without art, she could no longer give to life at the moment of awakening from the formidable farewell. A direction: emotion, an attempt: colour, a trace: abstraction, in a form of narrative of existence. And then, for years, drawings and paintings have always coexisted in the most absolute discretion until the exhibition.

It is with modesty that the artist encounters the gaze of others because she loves solitude. However, reinventing the world she sees through the brush reveals its miraculously silent, transparent part, and inscribes it in an unsuspected reality where the torment blends into a deep calming, the quest for equilibrium. And it is perhaps for this reason that she nevertheless accepts to show her works in all humility as a craftsman of the soul, a peasant of the heart.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Stéphanie Haye’s painting exhibition shows the recent evolution of her work on landscapes inspired by photographs taken in New Zealand. Stéphanie’s talent thrives in the sublimation of these shots taken on a day of rain and low clouds: her paintbrush, which knows nothing of the dazzling clarity of these lands and seas at the other end of the world, nevertheless knows how to capture the light. The colours she applies to the sky, to the roundness of a hill, to the peaks of foam, reveal an acutely faithful sensitivity.

Stéphanie Haye recently contributed to a live show based on poems staged and performed by two young actors: “Calabash-breakers”. The work of New Zealand poet Selina Tusitala Marsh, translated into French for the first time, is performed with delicate energy. An integral part of the setting and staging, the panels and watercolours painted by Stéphanie Haye bring their evocative power and their fair and sensitive imagination to the spectator eager to learn more about the Pacific.
